In this next unit we have to create a piece of music in the theme of conflict along side a backdrop or video also resembling the theme of conflict.
In the first lesson the class was split into two groups, and in my group i had, Lissie, Cameron, Charlie, and Joe. At first we started planning different themes on a A3 size piee of paper. For this we made a mind map on all the things we could think of to do with conflict such as mental, war, and other scenarios that have happened such as 911. We came up with many ideas from here. From there we wanted to choose the best stuff we had come up with and so the main thing we were mostly interested in was mental conflict such as emotional changes, or mental dissorder. We liked this because not only did we find this certan top interesting, but challenging for is. After the lesson we all set ourselves targets to get some information about metal dissorders or some pictueres or just to basically fins som research on it.

Bullying Idea
An idea we came up with was bullying. Particularly bullying at schools. We liked this idea because it was quite an essay subject. We have all seen bullying at schools before and we all have watched documentaries. Bullying can vary in different ways. You can have ciber bullying, physical, or you can just be called names. In doing so, the bully is dominating the bullied and so makes the other person feel demoralised or helpless. Can leave suvier damage physically and mentally
One common reaction from bully is depression. Depression is not just when your sad, but when your sad constantly for days and weeks, you feel week and tier all the time. Some people can go crazy and it can lead to self harming possibly death.

War Idea

War is an organised conflict that is carried out by states. It is generally characterised by extreme violence, social disruption and economic destruction. War can affect many people world wide. Particularly World War 1, which was one of the biggest wars ever. Millions died and this conflict lasted years from 1914 till november 1918. The battle of the Some was called the biggest battle and this is where we were going to base our unit.

It took place between 1 July and 18 November 1916 on both sides of the River Somme in France. The battle was the largest battle of World War I, in which more than 1,000,000 men were wounded or killed, making it one of most brutal and deadliest battles ever.

Mental Idea
One of the ideas that I had for this project was mental conflict. Mental illness is a mental or behavioural pattern that causes either suffering or an impaired ability to function in ordinary life.
One mental conflict we found the most interesting is depression. When you're depressed you feel persistently sad for weeks or months, rather than just a few days. Depression is a real illness with real symptoms.They range from lasting feelings of sadness and hopelessness, to losing interest in the things you used to enjoy and feeling very tearful. Many people with depression also have symptoms of anxietyThere can be physical symptoms too, such as feeling constantly tired, sleeping badly, having no appetite or sex drive, and complaining of various aches and pains.
By the end of the lesson we thought this was the best idea. We thought this because we all had so many ideas, we also had to many different causes of mental illness. This gave us so many opportunities to create a video for our backdrop.
This was my idea to the group and so i had a lot of ideas for the music video which i am going to show next lesson.

LESSON 2
In our next lesson i had come up with an idea such a music video. I had been watching a load of Kodaline music videos and most of them involve conflict which got me thinking about making a small music video for our composition. So in the lesson i told everyone the idea and theu all really liked it. In my head i imagined that the camera would have a shouler and head image of a persone male of female and basically throughout the whole music video the person would be walking in the direction of the camera and through out the video the actor would show different emotions such as anger, sadness, depression and eventually he or she would give up and end up jumping of the edge into a river. The group really liked this idea and started to come up with different scenarios to happen in the music video such as a phone call from a girlfriend or boyfriend breaking up with the actor, extras would be laughing at the actor in the background and they also come up with a good idea to have flash backs in the video of his past and how he used to be happy and something like a bench would set that flash back off because he or she may have had a past on that bench with a boyfriend of girlfiend. We all got really excited and started doing a story board. After we had done our story board we then made a list of all the things we needed such as a camera, actor and a phone and a load of pictures. While we were making the story board mnore ideas were springing to mind such as in the video, before the actor jumps off the edge, he could grab a small picture out of his pocket which was a really good memory and then he would jump leaving the picture behind, the camera would then zoom into the picture and it could be a picture of him or her being really happy and couple with his or her ex. At the end of the lesson we all listened to music such as All i Want by Kodaline and got some inspiration for our song.

In the next lesson the group came together and decided we wanted to shoot the video next week. We needed an actor though so we started talking about who should do it. We then came to the conclution that we should ask our tutor who was a drama teacher to point out a student who would be fit for doing a music video and who was reliable. When we asked him, he instantly knew who would be good and so he grabbed a boy from the drama department called Perry, and so we told him why we needed him and he was really up for being in the music video. Niel also told us he was reliable and very very very good. We then told him when were were plannig to shoot the video which woudl be next week.
After we sorted out an actor to play the part we then got on with the music part. We got into the music practice room and i showed them my chord progression and they all liked it. From there cameron got out a bass and started playing a long to it, it took a while to find out what to do with it untill Joe found a really good synth arpegiated effect whch was really cool. Charlie then started playing in time with the effect and then me and Cameron playin ontop of it and it sounded good. I then changed the chord progression and acted it as a chorus and it was nice and fitteed well with the song. At the time Lissie was trying to come up with a melody and some words. She started making some melodic noises and started singing ooos which sounded really nice especially when cameron started harmonising with her.

We went down to the river and started shooting the video. The weather was perfect because it was quite gloomy and dark and gave the video a dramatic feeling. For the first part we just videos Alex (the actor) walking down by the river trying to get as many angles as possible for the video. Cameron even climbed a tree to get a good angle. The lesson was coming to an end so we had to quickly come back half way through the shoot. At the end of the lesson we all arranged to go have another session of videoing because we were not done yet.

He only playe this part for a few seconds until he was in the video again acting like a bully towards alex portraying that he is a traitor to alex and is no longer friends, he barges into alex to portay conflict.
At the end we tried getting some vids of alex on the bridge by the river looking dramatically into the distance, we then got him to turn round and fall back like he was actually falling into the river.

LESSON 6
The video below is a vid of our dress rehearsal, this was the final rehearsal before the real deal. This was also the first time we actually practiced the song while having the video playing in the background. This was useful because using the video, we could analyse how much longer we needed to play and how to wether is be quiet or loud. This video was actually filmed on the exact day as the real performance.

EVALUATION
the preporation for this unit i felt was strong. We developed good ideas for what the music video should be like and we all chipped in ideas for elements of the songs. At the beginning of the unit we all prepared by doing the mind map and it heaped us a lot, it showed us that were were a lot more ways of conflict rather then just fighting. It enabled us to look further and in more depth to this unit and so we could have a better understanding. We also had some good ideas for the song, like the idea of using melodic vocal techniques to make the song a lot more ambient. The video was well shot and was well made, the preparation for it was good because we all new what we wanted out of the video so it didn't actually take us that long and there for the time for video and preparation for the performance was as minimal as possible.
On my part of the preparation i developed the chord for the guitar and the lead line for the song played on the guitar.
The performance its self was really good i felt. We shared a lot of eye contact throughout the whole piece enabling us to be consistent and in time with each other. We found that changing parts and going into different sections of the song was a lot easier having good contact with the other performers of the piece.
The performance i feel was solid and was our take of the song. Throughout the piece i didn't recognise any mistakes, we stayed in time and we were playing in time to the video swell.
The audience which actually were at the dress rehearsal were mostly just our friends watching us. This meant that we were comfortable with them and were playing quite smoothly.
evaluation on my part.
I felt that i did a lot of contribution throughout the whole of the unit. Certainly with the song , creating a lead line and the chord sequencing. I also helped a lot with the development of the video such as the story board. I feel like i helped plan the video quite a lot and that my ideas were spread through this part of the unit.
How The Song And Backdrop Went With The Brief
I feel that the song and the video were really in sync with the brief because they both initialised conflict. The backdrop music video was about a boy with depression because he was bullied by what he used to call his 'best friend'. After so much bullying he can't take it and so he is going through deep thoughts on what to do the whole way. Throughout the video he was getting more and more sad till eventually he couldn't take it, we see him at the end sitting on the banaster of the lake with a huge drop. Eventually he just lets himself go and drop.
Throughout the piece the pianist is playing a series of minor chords portraying a sad feeling in the song. It made the song very melodic and ambient. I felt this was the right move for this song because this song is meant to be very smooth and simple throughout to portray the boys thoughts of just wanting piece.
Development
The only thing i felt that could have gone better is that we could have speed up, i felt that the whole song dragged on a lot and it felt really slow. We could have also trimmed up the video to make it a lot shorter therefor making the song a lot faster.
At the end of the performance i felt that we did portray conflict. This is due to the video in which bullying takes place and metal conflict of depression takes place. The words which lissie sang also port raid conflict well.
